Our kennel known as “LA COCHA”, registered in Federación Cinológica Argentina with the number 1252 (see register), works since 1976 with specimens from the old bloodline, and it is registered with pedigree “Chubut” and “Totoral” (see pedigree).

When Antonio died, the older children (Rodolfo, Abel, Marta and Beatriz) remained with several specimens, which were taken to the Estancia La Cocha in the 60’s. During many years they worked with closed bloodlines, and with dogs from Cordoba, (Totoral, etc.), these dogs were the foundation of many breeders.

In the 80’s, the contributions of Mr. Miguel Angel García Montaño make possible to improve the specimen structurally. His great contribution of Penca and Valiente is remarkable; these specimens  provided structure, head, etc, while conserving the type.

In the 90’s, with the aid of Mr. Jose Luis Amaya, we could increase the number of fertile wombs, and we could eradicate atavic defects which are characteristics of such old bloodline, while conserving its outstanding functionality.

From 1999 on, the breeder had the great contribution of the enthusiastic specialist in the breed, Mr. Jorge Funes, with whom we have achieved to project the breeder to the entire world, at the present time.

The functionality

Our basis is functionality, from which we started and based on for our crossbreedings. We achieved to reduce, in few years, the number of our atavic defects (prognathism, bright eyes, lack of premolars), to just 8% maintaining type, mantle, hind quarters, and basically, physical and mental balance.

Our main goal is to spread the dogo just like it was created, that is why we assigned 80% of our activities to work with the specialists in creole hunting along the country.

Nowadays we can guarantee 100% of functionality and balance in our puppies, and we are constantly proud of it. During many years our quiet effort gave the rewards we so much dreamed, and today we can see how our dogs begin to succeed in every field.

We believe in and struggle for one great goal: to preserve the dogo above all, proving what his creator maintained, “the best dog among all the dogs of prey and the one of more prey among every dog in the world”.

During many years we could realize how this goal was left aside, but there exist breeders all over the world fighting to preserve what made the dogo world-famous: bravery, courage and nobility, which are qualities that have been reunited and powered to the maximum in this great breed.  

We introduce the personal history of our dogs. All of them have passed the necessary tests required order to be called dogos.

For that reason we want you to know that we always make a genetic test before we do the crossbreedings, but our main purpose is to use a pure dogo in the crossbreedings. We don’t use any dog which doesn’t fulfill the psychic features suitable for the breed.

We have proudly achieved to create true gladiators, with worthy to admire stability, and null aggression against people and domestic animals.

Ourselves and Mr. Jorge Funes  couldn’t have obtained these results without the fundamental contribution of our great friend and foreman in the “estancia”, Mr. Tomas Bracamonte, who works more than 16 hours per day in the 3 thousand- hectare field, where our dogos manage to maintain their tracking and sniffing ability like the first dogs.  

For some years already, we have been proud to count with the cooperation and the feedback of a great hunter and friend, Dr. Marcelo Fernandez, who, along with his incredible wife Patricia, have joined this dream that we have. Marcelo has hunted some of the most incredible boar specimens imaginable, deep down in wild Patagonia Argentina. With a knowledge based on years of being a hunter and a "doguero", his kennel, De Calfucura, works jointly with La Cocha, to be able to demonstrate that the Dogo is, and will keep being, the best breed in the world.

The breed

When Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez, dreamed about this beautiful breed, he was 
thinking about achieving an animal that has 3 main qualities:

• COURAGE

• BRAVENESS  

• NOBILITY

These qualities together with endurance, insensitivity, tracking and sniffing allow the qualification as a breed of prey.
This breed has two big functions:

• HUNTING (CREOLE HUNTING)

• COMPANY (FAMILY AND GUARDIAN)

Advice for those who initiate with this breed

The moment the puppy arrives home, it is imperative that they be well trained and socialized at an early age. He must know his place in the family, the “DOG” place, even with the love that this means.

• Con esto debe entenderse, que el cachorro, debe tener su propio lugar para dormir ( no la cama de un integrante de la familia, ni un sillón de la casa)

• This is really useful to show the animal that the family can invade all of his areas, even the private “eating” place. If the puppy shows sign of aggression, this must be repressed with a firm voice and even a minor physical punishment.

• This dog breed needs open air and physical activity, so if you have a small place dedicate some time to take the dog out.

Advice for the breeder

You should know that we are proud to offer a dog 100% guarantee in several aspects:

• Function, hunting dogs by nature.

• Physical and emotional stability with the surrounding environment.

• Sociability.

This is possible because we kept the pure specimen with a function with great effort.
We perform X-rays and complete health control on our breeders. 
We work on old blood-lines and mostly function.
Unfortunately the dogo, as other dog breeds, is about to disappear and remain as a “cute white dog”, so it is necessary that you know the regulations when buying one.

REGULATIONS OF THE CRIADERO LA COCHA

These regulations have the intention of preserving our effort, and may limit the sale of our puppies, but we know that the ones who really care about the dog will understand.

Our puppies are not classified in the “puppy or show” category. We try to select the best specimens for sale, taking into account that each puppy will be our image in the world for years.

When buying our dogs it is necessary to have time and space for them.
We respect those who want to expose the animal, but for those used for hunting we will provide more specimens free of charge as we have done all this time.

In case you can’t keep the animal anymore, it will be your obligation to give the specimen back to our hands.

WHEN YOU ACQUIRE ONE OF OUR DOGS, WE ARE COMMITED TO:

• Sending a first selection puppy, in which until the 2 months old, we can discard serious handicaps (eye color, coat, structure, etc.)

•  All our puppies have their BAER test, by well-known professionals and with their corresponding certificates.

• The FCA pedigree, signed and ready to be transferred, in case it is outside Argentina. We can process international transfer.

• Creator’s Family Certificate and DVD with photos and the history of the breed.(only available in 2007)

• Complete Health certificate according to age (vaccines and anti parasite).

• Health guarantee until 6 months old

• The possibility of orienting them with future crosses.

• Food recommendation and training plan according to age and standards of 
  behaviour and education.
